The important part first
Hivek Net has no account, and the inventory of your network never leaves your phone. The scan runs from the app against the network you are connected to, and the result is stored right there. No server of ours learns what devices are in your home or your office.
This is not a promise of good intent, it is how the app is built: no code exists that sends scan results anywhere.
What is stored on your phone
| Data | Where | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Devices seen: IP, MAC address, the name they publish and the vendor | Local SQLite | To recognise them and warn you when a new one shows up |
| Networks you have scanned | Local SQLite | To keep your home history apart from the office one |
| Open ports found | Local SQLite | It is the result of the scan you asked for |
| Scan history | Local SQLite | To compare against what was there before |
Uninstalling the app removes all of the above. Since there is no server, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
An honest warning: a MAC address and the name a device publishes identify a piece of equipment. That is why this history stays on your phone and travels nowhere.
Permissions and what they are for
| Permission | What for |
|---|---|
| Network and wi-fi state | To know which network you are on and which range to walk |
| Notifications | To tell you when a device shows up that was not there before |
The app does not ask for location. On the Android versions where the network name requires that permission, the name is simply not shown: we would rather say less than ask for location in an app that does not need it.
What third parties collect
The app uses two external services. Neither receives your network inventory.
Google AdMob — ads
Only in the free version. With Pro, the ads SDK is never even initialized.
AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier, your approximate location from your IP address, and ad interaction data, in order to show and measure advertising.
- Google's policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the app shows a consent form before serving personalised ads, and you can change your choice later from the privacy options.
RevenueCat — purchases
Only if you buy or restore Pro.
RevenueCat receives an anonymous installation identifier and the transaction data Google Play gives it, to verify that your purchase is active. It does not receive your name, your email or your payment details. Google Play handles those and they never pass through the app.
- RevenueCat's policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
- Google Play's policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Responsible use
The app walks the network you are connected to. Use it on networks you administer or where you have permission to do so.
